Grey’s Anatomy firefighter spin-off premiere date confirmed; Scandal pushed back on schedule

One of the most hotly-anticipated (word choice intentional) spin-offs of 2018 now has an official start date.

Want to know the Grey’s Anatomy firefighter spin-off premiere date? If so, here it is — Thursday, March 22 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern. The series will have a two-hour premiere, and to go along with that will lead out of Grey’s Anatomy at 8:00. That is a LOT of Grey’s Anatomy related content on one night.

For those wondering, though, the Grey’s Anatomy firefighter spin-off still does not have a title. For whatever reason, ABC just can’t figure that one out. The name value of the original show is one of the few things that is saving it in that regard.

Per the official series logline, the new show (which stars Rosewood alum Jaina Lee Ortiz alongside current Grey’s Anatomy star Jason George) “follows a group of heroic firefighters at Seattle Fire Station 19 – from captain to newest recruit – as they risk their lives and hearts both in the line of duty and off the clock.” Basically, this series is about precisely what you would think it to be about. The folks over at ABC are really trying to not throw the wool over anyone’s eyes with this show.

As for what this show means when it comes to Scandal, don’t worry — it will remain on the air, but will move back an hour to 10:00 p.m. Eastern starting on March 29. That’s where it will air out the remainder of its series, which is somewhat ironic given that this is the timeslot where the show first started. It’s going full-circle before it takes its last bow and trots off into the sunset a winner.

Obviously ABC has some high hopes for this spin-off, which is going to take the established mold of the flagship and apply it to a slightly different place. The one real question we have isn’t so much the obvious comparisons between it and Chicago Fireinstead, it’s the decision to kick off one hour of the show directly opposite Chicago Fire on the 22nd, provided that the NBC show has a new episode there. We understand that two similar shows can easily coexist on the schedule at the same time, but where is the logic in doing them simultaneously?
