Grey’s Anatomy season 14: Will Ellen Pompeo appear on firefighter spin-off?
Is Ellen Pompeo appearing on the upcoming firefighter spin-off? We’re pleased to report that she will!
According to TVLine, the photo above is from the upcoming spin-off, and you can see the actress as Meredith Grey alongside Andy Herrera, the series lead of the spin-off as played by Jaina Lee Ortiz. As for why these two characters are spending time together, the easiest explanation judging from the photo is that Andy will be visiting the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital for some reason. The two may know each other on some level already if Andy was one of the people who was at the hospital back when the fires were burning at the end of season 13. If not, they will certainly know each other moving forward. Andy is going to be connected to Grey’s Anatomy proper thanks to Ben Warren, who is going to be appearing on the new show after playing that character on the original for many years.
Probably the biggest surprise of all when it comes to the Grey’s Anatomy firefighter spin-off is simply the lack of a premiere date. We’re sure that one is probably coming at the TCA Winter Press Tour event a little bit later this week, and that’s extremely welcome since there are so many other details that we still have to learn about. This show is very much a mystery by some measure — it was ordered without a backdoor pilot, and mostly just on the strength of the original. The logic here seems to be simply that there needed to be another entry in #TGIT a little bit later this season and we imagine that this will take a spot in the lineup after How to Get Away with Murder ends.

As for whether or not this series airs at 9:00 p.m. or 10:00 p.m. Eastern (it’s possible that Scandal is moved back), that’s one of the things we still have to figure out.
