Golden Globes 2018: Oprah Winfrey’s Cecil B. DeMille Award speech

Globes -

We knew that there would be some sort of powerful moment at the Golden Globes, especially when it comes to the biggest trophy of the night.

So how was Oprah Winfrey’s Cecil B. DeMille Award speech? We do think that this is one that will remembered for quite some time.

There was quite a bit of uniqueness that came with this honor going Oprah’s way. There is the historical element of it with her as a black recipient of an award, and then there is also the fact that she cannot be thrown into any one individual box. Oprah is a producer, a performer, a daytime talk show icon, and so much more. We’re not exactly shocked that there are some out there, including host Seth Meyers, who jokingly want her to run for President. (Wait … is it a joke?)

Winfrey was the perfect person to address many different themes of the night. She touched on gender inequality, the #MeToo movement, and also matters of racial inequality. Her voice is powerful and influential, and if anyone was potentially going to be a beacon for discussion in regards to this subject, we were pretty darn confident that it could be her. She did a tremendous job, not that we’re altogether surprised about it. It’s pretty remarkable that we’ve gotten two speeches so influential over the past two years — just remember the speech that Meryl Streep gave last year, which set off plenty of remarks from President Donald Trump.

Perhaps probably the best thing in regards to Winfrey winning the award is that there are more opportunities for her to continue to do great things. Like with Streep, her career is far from over — this is mostly just recognition of everything that she’s done so far.

Congratulations to Oprah — now, let’s see what other sort of work she has left. We figure that there are going to be more updates on her future projects in the weeks ahead.
