Madam Secretary season 4 episode 11 sneak peek: Tension between Elizabeth, the Vice President bubbles over

Theresa Hurst

Madam Secretary season 4 episode 11 is coming to CBS Sunday night, and there are many signs that “Mitya” could be a huge episode of the show.

Are we meeting Vice President Theresa Hurst for the first time? Judging from the sneak peek below, the answer to that question is a clear “yes.”

This season the CBS series is clearly deciding to expand some of the important figures that they want to bring on-camera, and getting Hurst directly into the story at this point is critical for a number of different reasons. For one, she’s one of President Dalton’s most-trusted advisers and of course she brings a very specific viewpoint that is important for the show to highlight.

What’s also interesting is that Hurst seems ready and engaged to wage political war with Elizabeth. While you don’t get a complete sense of this in the sneak peek that CarterMatt has for you below, she is going to try to set McCord up for some trouble with Russia in regards to policy for adopting Russian orphans. It’s yet another hurdle that the Secretary of State is going to have to overcome, and it’s a difficult one that seems spawned by some of the recent buzz that she should run for President down the line.

Will Elizabeth actually go through with that? Maybe this is something we see and understand a little bit better by the end of the season. For now, it simply feels a little too early to call this one way or another.

As for what else we’re worried about in “Mitya”…

Much of that stems back to the episode’s title. Mitya is a nickname for Dmitri, who we’ve all come to care about on some level on this show. He, in turn, has come to care about Stevie, but it’s pretty darn clear that there are some people who are after him. This could be a very dangerous episode for the character. We’re really worried about him going in, just as we’re very worried about Stevie getting caught in the crossfire. Maybe both of them will emerge at the end of this episode okay, but we should say this: It’s not often that an episode is named after a character unless something pretty serious happens to them.
