Doctor Who season 11 cast: Have we met the entire group?

Doctor Who season 11 cast

Is it ever too early to start getting excited for the future of Doctor Who? CarterMatt doesn’t think so, given that the beloved BBC series is gearing up for one of its most ambitious batch of episodes that we’ve seen to date. This is the first full season featuring Jodie Whittaker as the title character, and to go along with that further this is the first season in a long time to feature more than just two or three characters as major facets of the series. We’re not sure that we would call Doctor Who an ensemble show all of a sudden, but new showrunner Chris Chibnall clearly wants the series to have a somewhat-different feel than it has in the past.

So who is in the Doctor Who season 11 cast? Let’s take a brief moment to highlight the four main players in Whittaker, Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole, and Mandip Gill.

Jodie Whittaker

If you are a British TV viewer, there’s a reasonably good chance that you know Whittaker already. She was on Chibnall’s previous series in Broadchurchand alongside that some of her other credits include Trust Me and The Assets. Playing The Doctor is no easy task, but all signs suggest that she’s more than prepared to take on the role. It’s a difficult one to play, but she’ll have her own fun take on it.

Bradley Walsh

Many viewers in Britain now Walsh as the host of The Chase, a popular unscripted series. Yet, he has plenty of acting credits to go along with Doctor Who including hundreds of Coronation Street episodes and Law & Order: UK. He is playing the character Graham and we just love the casting idea of taking this actor who is very well-known for a specific thing and then completely reinventing him for this show.

Tosin Cole

Cole has appeared on Hollyoaks and The Cut, and to go along with that had a role in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens as Lieutenant Bastian. Here in Doctor Who season 11, you’re going to see Cole take on the role of Ryan. It’s strange, but there is something we rather love about the fact that he is playing such a simply-named role on the show. It grounds the series a little bit, which it probably does need every now and then despite just how much we delight in some of the craziness.

Mandip Gill

Gill has also appeared in more than 200 episodes of Hollyoaks, and it’s rather interesting that the majority of the Doctor Who season  11 cast was all so finely trained through British soaps. She’s probably the least-known of the four leads this season, but there’s some excitement with that. We love the fact that Chibnall has gone with a very diverse group of cast members for Doctor Who season 11 — they all carry with them different styles and come via very different walks of life. Here’s to hoping that some wonderful things happen when everyone manages to come together in the end.
