Grey’s Anatomy season 14 spoilers: Will Ben and Bailey break up?

Going into the rest of Grey’s Anatomy season 14 this year, there are many different questions that you have to wonder … including a big one when it comes to Ben and Bailey. Given that Jason George is departing this series for the upcoming firefighter-based spin-off show, they’re not going to have as much time to spend together. We also know from covering a wide array of other shows over the years that putting characters in these sort of situations on different series can be detrimental to onscreen relationships. It’s hard for George to continue filming on Grey’s Anatomy proper while Chandra Wilson is working on the other. At most, maybe the two will make a few appearances on each other’s shows over the rest of the year.

Basically, we’re giving you a warning that Ben and Bailey are going to be in some trouble. George is here to elaborate on that said warning.

Speaking in a new interview with TheWrap, George did his part to explain what the main source of the tension between the two is — it’s basically another reminder that there’s a big difference between being a doctor and a firefighter in terms of having your life on the line:

“Risking your life on a day to day thing, that goes into deal breaker territory … So it was exciting to me, and at the same time, kind of stressful to me, for the same reasons it is to Ben and Bailey. So I think Bailey on the new show, she’s not one to hold her tongue. We still have yet to see how this new situation plays out in terms of their relationship, if their relationship can survive this new piece.”

The obvious issue that we foresee Ben having is trying to explain to Bailey how to deal with the fact that he routinely, puts his life on the line for the sake of the job. Bailey wants to be able to control that; her job is to help people, but she’s by and large safe in the process.

By the time the firefighter spin-off premieres a little later in the year we’ll see Grey’s Anatomy find a way to properly bring Ben over to that show. There’s also a good chance that we will be introduced to many of the other characters on that show through his eyes. We do think that it is pretty effective to get to know someone with a little bit of help from a familiar face.
