A Fargo season 4 could happen in 2019

Fargo season 3

For everyone out there wondering when a Fargo season 4 premiere could happen at FX, there was finally some great news unearthed today!

While at the network’s TCA Winter Press Tour panel, network boss John Landgraf confirmed that there are plans for show creator Noah Hawley to return to the series with a new story he wants to tell. Here is, (per TVLine) what he had to say:

“Noah, who’s become quite a busy bee, not only with Legion [but with novels and features, too] has told us that he has an idea, which excites me enormously, for a fourth cycle … The plan is to have that ready for 2019.”

A Fargo season 4 could fall anywhere on the map. There’s a reasonably good chance that it could be a prequel to all of the seasons that have aired to date, just as there’s also a chance that it could follow season 3 and be even more contemporary. There is a road map for the series that darts all over the place, and one of the only things that has been constant throughout is the setting. Through the entire hiatus between seasons, Hawley has reiterated his desire to make more … but only if he has another story to tell. At the end of season 3 (read more about that here), Hawley said that he didn’t have another story in him at the time. Time certainly helps to change things; also, we do feel like Hawley working on so many things is probably beneficial from the vantage point of it keeping his creative engine churning. It allows him to remain engaged in plotting/planning out the show moving forward.

On a separate note, 2019 is already shaping up to be an enormous year in TV! You’ve got the final season of Game of Thrones set and also potentially the return of both Big Little Lies and True Detective … and that’s just all shows that are airing on HBO. CarterMatt has a feeling that even more heavy hitters could be announced, and there’s potential for Amazon’s Lord of the Rings series to be available in late 2019 or in 2020.

What do you want to see on Fargo season 4, or do you really think that this is one of those shows where it’s better to not have many expectations at all? Be sure to share some of your thoughts on the subject below!
