Mayans MC officially ordered to series at FX

Mayans MC - JD Pardo

Tremendous news to report today: Mayans MC is now officially a go over at FX.

Today at the TCA Winter Press Tour in Los Angeles, the network confirmed that they are giving a full season to the Sons of Anarchy follow-up from original series creator Kurt Sutter and Elgin James. The story revolves around EZ Reyes, a prospect who is fresh out of prison and trying to rebuild his life after once being considered the “golden boy” in a place not exactly known for making dreams come true. The cast includes Edward James Olmos, JD Pardo, Sarah Bolger, Clayton Cardenas, Richard Cabral, Michael Irby, Raoul Trujillo, Antonio Jaramillo and Carla Baratta — basically, a pretty fantastic group of people. Pardo is set to play Reyes, and this could be a star-making turn for him much like it was for Charlie Hunnam over on Sons of Anarchy proper.

In a statement confirming the series pickup today, Nick Grad, President of Original Programming for FX Networks, had the following to say:

“Kurt Sutter is a master storyteller and Mayans MC has the raw energy and intensity that are hallmarks of his signature style. Thanks to Kurt, co-creator Elgin James and this amazing cast, Mayans MC builds on the legacy of Sons of Anarchy, taking it in a thrilling new direction that we can’t wait for the world to see.”

You can see one of the first-released photos from the Mayans MC pilot above. The first season is slated to premiere late in 2018; CarterMatt’s hope is that it can come back in the fall and fill the same void left by the original Sons of Anarchy. That show was bold, brash, well-acted, and at times emotionally raw. It set a tone and style that was very different from almost anything else on TV and we hope that we get a chance to see Mayans MC honor that tradition. With Sutter on board, there’s reason for everyone to have the utmost confidence that this will be a hit.
