The Mayor removed from ABC’s schedule and we’re sad about it

ABC"s The Mayor

Is The Mayor canceled at ABC? While it’s not official, signs seem to be pointing towards one of the best comedies of the fall going the way of the dodo.

For the time being, the network has opted to pull the remaining episodes of the comedy, which starred relative newcomer Brandon Michael Hall, Glee alum Lea Michele, and Yvette Nicole Brown of Community and The Odd Couple. The series has a great premise — a rapper decides to run for office as a publicity stunt and ends up getting elected — but it couldn’t find an audience on Tuesday night.s That’s unfortunately, especially since with the right venue we think it could have done a little bit better. Maybe you can argue that ABC wasn’t the right network for it, since a cable venue would’ve allowed for it to be a little bit edgier than it was able to be here. That’s one of the struggles with any show from the jump — you’re grateful to be on the air but wonder if it’s the right home, the right spot.

As for whether or no the remaining episodes will air, a network rep would not commit to anything to TVLine — yet, we have to assume that there’s a reasonably good chance the rest of the installments will air someday. The Mayor marks the second almost-cancellation for ABC this season; if you recall, they opted to give the axe to the Kyra Sedgwick series Ten Days in the Valley after a handful of low-rated episodes. At least The Mayor got a little bit closer to airing out the majority of its run before it was pulled off the air for the time being.

Trust us when we say that in the event there is more news to share on The Mayor, such as it getting an air date for some more new episodes, we’ll have that for you here. (The thing we’re the most depressed about is that it didn’t get any love from the Golden Globe nominations, since that could’ve been a thing to keep it around a little while longer.)
