Better Call Saul season 4 filming is almost here — looking towards the series’ future

Better Call Saul season 3

Are you ready for Better Call Saul season 4 filming to be here? We certainly hope so, given that we’ve almost made it to the end of the road for this very long filming hiatus.

While CarterMatt is writing this piece, the majority of the cast is starting to make its way towards Albuquerque, the site of the majority of the show’s filming in New Mexico. It’s a much later start in production this season, but that makes sense given that you’re looking at a season of the show that is not airing until the fall. The writers had more time this year to work out the story and we’re totally fine with that, given just how much ground they need to cover.

At the point in which we are in the Better Call Saul season 4 story, Jimmy McGill is using the name Saul Goodman — he’s not serving as a lawyer under the name yet, but he’s close to it. His brother Chuck is now dead, Gus Fring has entered the picture, and he already has business dealings with Mike Ehrmantraut. There’s a little bit more ground to cover in terms of his suspension and then also his relationship with Kim Wexler. If she was still in the picture during the days of Breaking Bad, she was never explicitly referenced on the show itself. We tend to assume that she is gone.

Will Better Call Saul season 4 be the end? It’s unlikely, but remember that Breaking Bad itself only had five seasons. We like to think that Better Call Saul will do something different and order a 16-episode final season that can be split up into halves … with the final part of it being Gene-specific and giving us a chance to see where Jimmy goes on the other side of what happened to Walter White. Maybe this is not the original premise of the show, but we’re invested in Jimmy. We like to think that he is a good person at heart who gets caught up and does bad things. We want to believe that there’s still some degree of hope for him.

Once there’s some more Better Call Saul season 4 start date info out there, we’ll have it for you here! With the cast descending on Albuquerque the first table read of the season could be here before you know it.
