Hoda Kotb officially replaces Matt Lauer as Today Show co-anchor
The NBC show made the announcement official this morning, and really it felt as though this was a long time coming. Hoda has been one of the network’s best broadcasters and distinctive voices, and there was talk even before Savannah Guthrie’s promotion that she could have taken the co-anchor job then. She will continue to do her hosting duties alongside Kathie Lee Gifford, which basically just means that Hoda is now the busiest woman at NBC News juggling so many different responsibilities at once.
You can see the introduction of the show today this morning, as Guthrie was the one to officially announce that Hoda was coming on board. The two will forge forward together and clearly have the experience needed in order to do the job well. Hoda can now take on some serious topics at the start of the show, but eventually also go over and do some of the fun stories she’s become known for, as well. This news will hopefully enable NBC to move forward slightly after what’s been a pretty disastrous past few months with Matt Lauer leaving amidst a sexual harassment scandal. NBC has wanted to move forward as quickly as possible, and getting Hoda on board is an good way in which to do that.
We’ll be paying attention over the next few weeks to see what impact this move has on the ratings. Given that Today Show viewers already know Hoda, we don’t anticipate it being some sort of earth-shattering change.
