Why The Brave’s schedule bump is a hopeful sign for the show

NBC’s The Brave was originally supposed to be airing a new episode on NBC tonight, and it would have served as the tenth of the season. It was an ambitious plan to kick off the new year with scripted content, especially since New Year’s Day is not typically referred to as a day when viewers flock to the airwaves. Most people are still trying to regroup from the New Years Eve festivities before heading back to work.

Over the past few weeks however, The Brave has underwent a last-minute turnaround. There is no new episode tonight, as the powers-that-be over at the network have made a decision to hold off on airing new installments for another week. Obviously, there were fears about the show losing an audience on New Year’s Day, especially when there is a reasonably good chance that the series will lose some momentum next week anyway because of the NCAA National Championship Game.

While not confirmed as of yet, it looks as though The Brave will run, (starting on January 8) every week until the first season is wrapped at the end of the month. For those of you wondering, this is not necessary the end of the series. NBC is keeping mum on the future of the Mike Vogel drama; for now, there are mild reasons for optimism. One of them actually comes via the decision to schedule out the remainder of the season a little bit differently. In not airing an episode tonight, NBC shows more of a belief in the series’ long-term success. They don’t want to throw The Brave to the wolves in the same way The CW is doing with one of their own shows in Valor. This is a reason for hope, and that may be enough to satisfy some of the fans of The Brave who are currently out there. If NBC will bring back Timeless after at first canceling it, there is absolutely still hope for there to be more of The Brave on the air in the future.
