SMILF season 2 premiere date hopes: When will Frankie Shaw series return?

SMILF season 2

Following tonight’s finale, what could the SMILF season 2 premiere date be on Showtime?

The first thing worth noting here is that the series, which stars Frankie Shaw, is going to be coming back for another batch of episodes. It was the subject of critical acclaim and thanks to a buzzworthy name and some consistent recognition, it did enough to convince the network to give them another batch of episodes before getting into the month of December.

In a statement about the renewal, Showtime’s President of Programming Gary Levine had the following message to pass along:

“From its first episode, the refreshingly honest point of view of SMILF broke through with audiences, the press and on social media … Frankie Shaw is a creative force to be reckoned with and we love having her on Showtime. Her show is funny and forthright, pointed and poignant, irreverent and relevant, all at once. We can’t wait to see where Frankie takes SMILF next season.”

There is confirmed SMILF season 2 premiere date as of yet, but with the timing of the renewal all signs point to a SMILF season 2 coming out either late in 2018 or early in 2019, based on how Showtime wants to set up the production. We personally hope that the network doesn’t saddle the show again with a finale airing on New Year’s Eve — while they may have made the episode available early to subscribers, that doesn’t exactly mean that everyone knew that or has had a chance to watch just yet. We just think that this finale date didn’t do the show any favors — hopefully, a season 2 will no matter when it premieres.

Unfortunately, we wish we had some other good news to hand down regarding White Famous, the other Sunday-night comedy over at Showtime. That series, which starred Jay Pharoah and was executive-produced by Jamie Foxx, was canceled earlier on this weekend.
