Victoria season 3 spoilers: New source of Victoria – Albert tension explored

Want some of the first Victoria season 3 spoilers? In some ways, calling them “spoilers” feels a little bit strange since we’re talking about real-life events; yet, here we are. There are still things that can be explored here thematically and others abandoned. There is no way to fit the entire life of a Monarch into a batch of episodes, especially with a number of time jumps injected along the way.

When Victoria season 3 does air, it appears as though the Queen’s sex life will be a source of tension — mostly in terms of the relationship that seems to be there between Victoria’s large family and her desire to with her husband. Speaking (per the Radio Times) while at the recent DVD launch for season 2 (premiering in America in January on PBS), Daisy Goodwin, the series’ writer, had the following to say:

“She has six children in eight years – which is a lot – and there are some gaps, so I wonder whether there may have been some withholding [of sex] on both sides; that’s certainly something I’m going to explore in series three … There’s also a suggestion in a letter Albert writes to her… basically they thought that every time she was pregnant she went a bit mad, so there will be a bit of that. There’s s a suggestion that she’s not in her right mind, hereditary insanity and all of that.

“She’s in this terrible double bind. She loves Albert and she loves going to bed with Albert. But every time he goes near her she gets pregnant. Obviously that suits him more than it suits her … When she’s pregnant he takes over her work. He’s the best maternity cover you can have – he’s rather too good at it. She feels rather displaced, [wondering] ‘who am I?’ She doesn’t like the discomfort about being pregnant.”

We’ve certainly already seen a great deal of tension between these two over time, which a great deal of it seemingly stemming from how Albert feels uncomfortable in his role and how Victoria has to struggle with the constant understanding that her husband is looking to defy her. He may love her, but he also isn’t in all that much of a hurry to submit to her in any form. He’s a boastful, confident man who often wants what he wants, regardless of how it makes her feel. Their hot-and-cold relationship is one of the calling hards of the series, and we imagine that this is going to continue.
