Top Chef: Last Chance Kitchen episode 5: A new twist enters the fray
Well, let’s just say that the return to the competition was happening a little bit earlier than anyone would have though. There are two separate episodes airing this week and by the end of it, someone will be returning to the competition.
Going into this episode, Tyler Anderson was facing a really long battle in order to make it back into the kitchen. Now, the road is slightly easier … slightly. He has to take out Claudette, Lee Anne, and Kwame, who have all survived multiple showdowns at this point. They’re used to dealing with the pressure and the extreme creativity that goes along with this.
The main focus of episode 5 was heads — Tyler and the rest of the chefs had to make a dish using the head of a popular protein. Tyler, interesting, seemed more focused on making a dish based on his mother’s skills than he was on Wednesday night’s episode where that was a main focus. Meanwhile, Claudette decided to push herself by doing a few things that she’s never done before. Kwame, meanwhile, had a great concept … but we wondered if he wasn’t using enough of the head to satisfy the challenge in the end. It seemed like every chef had some struggles bringing their food to fruition, but Tyler started to get a little all over the place.
The end result
Everyone seemed to do a pretty good job with the food but Tom had a clear favorite: Kwame. Despite our concerns he did manage to get all of his flavors together. Following that, Claudette also moved forward — her risks paid off!
The bottom two for the challenge were Tyler and Lee Anne and they each did a good job — yet, Tyler’s journey is over shortly after it began in Last Chance Kitchen. Lee Anne, Kwane, and Claudette had a chance to move forward and only one of them will compete on Top Chef moving forward. Consider this your cliffhanger…
