Knightfall season 2 renewal reportedly imminent at History
According to Production Weekly (thanks to SpoilerTV for the heads-up), the medieval drama about the Knights Templar is going to go into season 2 production starting in April. Typically if a show is getting word on the start of filming so early, it’s a pretty good indicator that more episodes are going to be made. It’s not 100% official as of yet, but clearly there is enough confidence in the series moving forward to make this move and start to build more towards the future.
At the moment, it’s pretty clear why there is so much optimism towards Knighfall, and a lot of it starts in the ratings. While the numbers haven’t been anywhere on par with Vikings as of late, they have been solid for a first-year show that, if the quality continues to come in, could build its audience over time. One of the biggest deterrents for many freshman series in the current TV climate is viewer fear. There is uncertainty that surrounds supporting a show when there is no explicit guarantee that you are going to get more of it down the road. Understandably, there aren’t all too many people who don’t want to bite on it.
If Knightfall season 2 production kicks off in the spring, there is a reasonably good chance that the second season will premiere come late 2018. That’s the right window for the show to come back given that you don’t want to create a situation in which the show is off the air for so long that there aren’t any viewers around to enjoy it because they forgot about it over time.
New episodes of Knightfall season 1 are going to continue to air on History on Wednesday nights. Be sure to stay tuned for more coverage.
