Fuller House season 3 episode 13 review: The trials ahead for Tommy

Fuller House season 3 episode 13 review

Fuller House season 3 episode 13 felt in some ways like a season 1 episode of the Netflix comedy; it started out with some silly humor and lighthearted fun, only to eventually lead into a rather serious subject that could have been given more time than it was: Tommy being somewhat behind in his learning and development.

There are obviously a number of different reasons as to why this could be happening, and we give the Fuller House team credit for not just throwing a label onto the toddler and making assumptions. This is a struggle that so many parents go through, wondering the best way to help their son or daughter when no way feels immediately clear. The best thing that they can offer in the short-term is love and possible solutions. This is what DJ seems ready to do after being informed of the news by an unusually-peppy woman who helps to run a top-dollar private child care center, one designed to guide him on the right path in his development.

The silliness came about earlier this episode as DJ tried just about everything that she could to impress this woman, but to no avail. Max was sick, but refused to stay in his room. He tried to escape, so DJ had to try and wrangle him right in the middle of her assessment with Tommy … while also dealing with Jackson and Ramona getting mixed up in some hijinks and being brought home by a police officer while peddling for money as Amish people on the street. Most of the storylines here were derivative and really don’t matter beyond just what DJ is now facing with her youngest son.

This is probably in part what makes Fuller House season 3 episode 13 one of the most difficult episodes to review — so much of the story was geared in a way to lead into a big reveal in the closing minutes regarding Tommy. Unfortunately, there’s not that much else to cling to unless you want to talk about Jackson strutting around in a toga or a very predictable line about cops and donuts.

CarterMatt Verdict

In terms of tackling tough subjects in a way that is believable, Fuller House season 3 episode 13 was the best of the second half of the season. We just wish that the end reveal was supported by a stronger episode overall since the bulk of this story is not one we imagine that we’re going to be altogether remembering in the weeks ahead.
