Once Upon a Time season 7 spoilers: Another Regina love interest coming

Is another Regina love interest coming to Once Upon a Time season 7? Based on some of the early indications that we have from the show’s production staff, it does very much appear to be the case.

Speaking to TVLine, show co-creator Adam Horowitz confirmed that in the world of Hyperion Heights, the latest iteration of the one-time Evil Queen is going to have an opportunity to move forward in her romantic life. Who will it be with? Let’s just say that trying to get Horowitz to admit that will be tough:

“Regina/Roni has a lot going on in Hyperion Heights … As Gothel’s plan intensifies and the spectre of the coven looms, the stakes are raised. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for romance … Regina may have suffered a lot over the years, but she is nothing if not resilient. And when her heart is stirred, she decides to explore what that means and to see what possibilities lie out there for her.”

Horowitz added that this new love interest is not in any way meant to diminish the two great loves that Regina had beforehand in Daniel and Robin Hood, with the latter being a character many people are still desperate to revive:

“Robin and [her first love] Daniel will always be a part of Regina,” Horowitz makes clear, “but she knows she owes it to herself to see if she can love again.”

As someone who long supported the Regina / Robin pairing for as long as it was on the show the idea of her finding someone else is difficult; yet, we also do understand that shows must move forward and that Regina is a character who deserves happiness. Let’s just take the whole showrunning/writing side of it out of the picture for a moment. For Regina at this point in her life as a character, she likely wants to take it upon herself to consider options as they start to come her way. This is not someone who even spent this season with much of her memory, let alone someone convinced that Robin or Daniel could be coming back. She has to move forward, and that is probably what either one of those men would want for her in the event they could pass along the message.

Until the character is revealed, we’ll do our best to keep an open mind.
