Mariah Carey’s New Year’s Eve performance: What makes 2nd time in Times Square special?
Growing up as kids, everyone was lectured by their teachers, parental units and even clergy, that humans are expected to try again when they fail. When failing in life does happen, it’s a horrific feeling, especially if if it happens in front of people you know. Who would have thought after Mariah Carey’s performance last year she would be back? In an almost jaw dropping announcement, viewers now get word that Mariah Carey is returning to Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve show to perform once again. Which is exactly what we are told to do as kids — get up and try again even if it wasn’t the most pleasant experience the first time.
It’s harsh to revisit, but last year when Mariah’s performance went south, there was an ear-splitting echo of negative commentary from people watching. None of the viewers knew how the performance was messed up, they just knew that it was off and yet it seemed like everyone had an opinion. It could have been equipment malfunctions. Maybe something wasn’t exactly right on stage. Or maybe it was a combination of things. Who knows? What is known is most of the critics were unfairly harsh towards Mariah.
What makes this second performance on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve so special? Mariah Carey didn’t walk away from last year saying she’d never show up on stage again. She actually did the opposite. She’s coming back. Plus she’s promising to make the moment extra special. It’s almost impossible to believe. Most entertainers wouldn’t even consider trying again after the harsh criticism shared.
Mariah Carey Offers Fans a Teaching Moment
This is a teaching moment for us all. It doesn’t matter if you are Mariah Carey or Jane Smith. When you get handed a blow in front of your peers there is only one thing you can do. Get up, dust yourself off and try again. Then when you finally succeed, you offer everyone a big smile. Why? Because you are a fighter and no matter how far you fall, your success comes when you get up again and push on. Failure is never an option. Mariah Carey will get to have her moment on stage for us all to watch. Then no doubt she will go on to have a successful 2018.
