NCIS: Los Angeles season 9: Three things to happen before finale

John M. Jackson

Unfortunately, NCIS: Los Angeles is not airing on CBS tonight; to go along with that, it’s not coming on the network until January 7. Because of this lengthy hiatus, we’re going to have a chance to take a couple of deep breaths before preparing for a couple of episodes and then a much longer hiatus in the new year. (Because of NFL playoffs, Grammys, the Olympics, and the Oscars, be prepared for a stretch of preemptions and repeats in between late January and March 11.)

So what do we want to see later this season, at the time in which NCIS: Los Angeles does come back on the air with some new episodes? We’ve got a trio of helpful suggestions below that touch a little bit more on this subject.

1. Hetty coming home – This should be a given, and we know that it’s going to be addressed before too long. The upcoming January 14 episode will feature some of your favorite characters heading to Vietnam in order to rescue the character; following that, the show’s March return should continue this storyline.

2. A Deeks/Kensi wedding date – While obviously we’d love for it to be at some point this year, we’d live with it being further down the road provided that A) NCIS: Los Angeles gets an early season 10 renewal and B) a specific date is set. We just want to see some more progress being made here!

3. A new villain – On the other side of the Hetty arc it’d be great to feature another character who could come on board and challenge the team stateside. While we obviously don’t love seeing all of these characters in peril, it’s good for them every now and then to have rivals that push them and cause them to reevaluate themselves. Plus, it builds momentum moving into the finale.

For the time being, we think that insofar as ratings go an NCIS: Los Angeles season 10 should happen — we never want to count our chickens before they hatch, but for now we’re carrying with us a reasonably level of confidence. We can leave our concerns about the future behind and focus more on the show as it’s airing now.
