Could a Fresh Prince of Bel Air revival happen? Will Smith talks idea

Fresh Prince

Is it possible that there could be a Fresh Prince of Bel Air revival at some point in the future? It’s obviously a fun thing to think about given that this was, by far, one of the best sitcoms of its time. It launched the career of Will Smith and has, bar none, one of the greatest TV theme songs of all time.

Unfortunately, there isn’t all that much in the way of conversation right now about the revival happening. There were talks at one point, but when speaking about this more in a new appearance on The Graham Norton Show Smith joked that if a new version of the show happened, he’d have to be Uncle Phil.

As much as we did enjoy the original version of the show, we’ll admit that this is a little bit of a harder show to bring back for one simple reason — much of the original premise was about Smith’s character being a fish out of water. At this point, it would be hard to Will to replicate that. A better scenario would be to do something similar to Fuller House, where Will does take on a different role within the ensemble and there is someone else who takes his place as the outsider. Or, just have him executive produce a new version of the show that gives you different characters and a story that reinvents the show for a modern audience.

Or, you could just come up with a new idea altogether. It’s very difficult for any show to recapture the magic that it once did, even if The Fresh Prince of Bel Air does still have a loyal audience. The biggest thing that a revival probably has going for it at the moment is that it’s airing on NBC, a network that already brought back Will & Grace and is considering a revival of The Office featuring some of the original cast members.
