Top Chef: Colorado episode 3 contenders: More love for Chris Scott

Chris Scott

Top Chef: Colorado episode 3 is airing on Bravo tonight; leading into it, CarterMatt wants to focus on who are the chefs worth watching? Who are some of our favorites? This is what our Contenders series is all about!

One of the most exciting things about where we are right now in this season is that there’s some relative parity among the group. While there are some who seem likelier than others to make it far in the season, there’s no one just yet who screams “I’m the favorite and nobody will defeat me” … at least just yet. Maybe that’s going to change at some point during the season.

These three Contenders aren’t really listed in any particular order, but we would give the first two chefs mentioned a slight leg up given their consistency so far.

1. Fatima Ali – A heck of a great start for Fatima, who’s been in the top of two straight Elimination Challenges. She’s shown both an ability to cook a wide range of food, has a magnetic personality and has an ability to be a storyteller. That’s important for reality television but it’s equally important with food.

2. Chris Scott – Probably our personal favorite chef so far this season just on the basis of food, personality, and overall vibe. The guy just radiates charm in a way that few others have and we find that appealing in this modern celebrity-chef age. There’s a humility here along with a story and a desire to make good food.

3. Carrie Baird – After a tough start to the season we have to give Carrie some credit for turning things around and bringing out some of her best food for this super-short season. This does bode extremely well for her if she can get some momentum going. It also gives her a little bit more leeway in the event that she does falter somewhere else down the road. With a few exceptions (a la the elimination of Kenny in season 7, #NeverForget), a chef’s cumulative ability seems to matter in eliminations.
