Outlander and a slice of Sam Heughan – Steven Cree fun

Steven Cree

There are many fun things about the Outlander community, but the relationship between Sam Heughan and Steven Cree is fairly high up there on the list. Sure, it is effectively two guys goofing around with each other on social media much of the time, but we do think that there is a deeper meaning here. They are helping to set the tone for the rest of the cast and crew.

CarterMatt has often said that for many shows — and movies, for that matter — the tone is often set by some of the people higher up on the call sheet. With people like Cree, Heughan, and Caitriona Balfe, you get the sense that they’re people who work hard when they need to and then have fun in accordance to that. They’ve established that the environment around the Outlander set is fun and full of jokes, which we imagine is something desperately needed when you are taking on some super-serious subject matter. This show has a lot of that and, as a result, you have to find a way to cut some of the tension. Playing around with each other online is a great way to do that.

What makes the latest video (which you can watch via Twitter), so funny is that it’s completely random. We’re talking about a video in which Cree effectively plays two different characters while Sam mostly sits there in his own little world. It’s a nice little bit of Outlander-related humor during a time in which there isn’t all that much going on. Production halted in Scotland last week for the remainder of the year and it will resume again in the new year.

As for whether or not we will see Cree again in the upcoming season, we don’t think Jamie and Claire in America necessarily negates the presence of a certain Ian Murray. There are still ways in which he could be featured and we’re interested to see how much of that could play out. (Book readers likely know more about some of these possibilities.) As for Ian’s son Young Ian Murray, it’s pretty much a given that he will have a big role to play based on how season 4 ended and the fact that the show’s already cast his trusty pet Rollo.
