The Crown season 3: What stories will be told about Queen Elizabeth?
First off, we know that Foy will be replaced by Golden Globe winner Olivia Coleman and that there will be a time jump from Season 2 to 3. It has been reported that the third season will pick up in the 1970s, which carried many significant events for the Royal Family. Some of these events include Prince Charles meeting Camilla Parker Bowles, the divorce of Princess Margaret and Lord Snowden, Princess Margaret’s relationship with Roddy Llewellyn, the death of former King Edward VIII, Lord Mountbatten’s assassination, and the reign of Margaret Thatcher. The first season spanned 8 years and the second season was 8 years as well, so for Season 3 we expect it to be anywhere from 8-10 years of the Queen’s reign.
These events, (as well as others) should be at least mentioned in the upcoming season because they all had a huge impact on the Queen during that time. We may not think that these events would have a huge impact on her but as we have learned from the first two seasons, it’s that everything has some impact on her that either brings out the Queen in her or brings out the human side of her (the episode with Jackie O is a great example of both). These moments were truly when Foy shined and we can’t wait to see Coleman shine as well.
As far as the rest of the cast goes, no official word has been announced regarding who will take over for Matt Smith (Prince Philip) and Princess Margaret (Vanessa Kirby), etc. It definitely will be interesting to see who will play these famous characters next.
Early production of Season 3 began in October and it’s still unclear if it will be on the fast-track in order to debut in December of 2018. Our guess is probably not and only because it takes an incredible amount of time to film these episodes with the amount of detail that goes into each one. Now, we would love to see Season 3 comes out late next year because we love this show, but we will wait forever to get the same high quality show that we’ve been getting so far.
