The Voice finale: Red Marlow original song ‘I Pray,’ music video

Red Marlow

Red Marlow is a finalist competing on The Voice finale tonight, and we’ve got a preview now of his original song “I Pray.”

You can hear the song leading up to the show tonight on iTunes — or, you can just check it out below! This is one of those cases where a finalist is performing a song on the finale that they already had in their repertoire. This is one Red Marlow first recorded at least a couple of years back judging from the video below.

For those unable to listen (hey, people are at work!), “I Pray” is a big country-gospel ballad that lives very up to its name. It’s a song about surrendering to a higher power and letting the emotion of the moment run through you. For those of you who are religious, you will probably relate to much of what he has to say in the lyrics. It’s no secret that religious songs tend to fare very well with The Voice viewers, who are often from Middle America and are big fans of country-gospel music themselves. This is in part why there have been so many winners over the years from Team Blake Shelton. That’s also why you cannot completely rule out Red as a contender for the title tonight, even if there’s another member of Team Blake on the show in Chloe Kohanski pegged as more of the pre-show favorite.

“I Pray” was co-written by Red Marlow alongside Larry McCoy, and we imagine that this is a song he’ll be able to tour with successfully at churches and festivals after the show who are looking for some sort of booming religious ballad. If you like Red’s music, you are probably going to like this.

For those wondering, Marlow tonight will also be performing “I’m Gonna Miss Her” alongside Blake Shelton in addition to the classic “Make You Feel My Love.” Of these three, we do think that his original song is going to be the one that is the most memorable after the fact.
