Doctor Who – Twice Upon a Time sneak peek: The First Doctor’s Tardis

Doctor Who Christmas Special trailer

A new Doctor Who – Twice Upon a Time sneak peek has surfaced via our friends at the BBC — and it’s awesome! How awesome? Well, it manages to reference a baking icon, give you a taste of an updated version of the First Doctor’s Tardis, and also have Bill commenting on how the windows look different than they do the modern-day version.

This sneak preview is the perfect little appetizer to what is hopefully going to be an epic Christmas Special overall, one that will feature both the First and Twelfth Doctors working together in order to resolve a problem — while also confronting what is their own mortality at the same time. These are two men now acutely aware of the fact that their times in this universe are ending and they have to prepare for what’s next. They will have an eerie sort of kinship, but also pain given that in looking at each other’s situation, they are also looking at themselves. This story will be one that is fun, reflective, and hopefully very different from past Christmas Specials. There will certainly be tear-jerker moments by the time you make it to the end of the episode … but hopefully those will be replaced with hope once Jodie Whittaker is unveiled as the Thirteenth Doctor on the other side.

We should add that it’s also nice to see Pearl Mackie featured in the preview given that this is also the farewell to her Bill — you’ve also got Mark Gatiss coming on board in his own role, one that is different than any other that you’ve seen. David Bradley of Game of Thrones / The Strain is playing the First Doctor and what is immediately lovely about him being on is clear: This is a very different role than what we’ve grown accustomed to seeing him play.
