Shameless season 8 episode 8 return date for Emmy Rossum, cast
Let’s start off this article with news that should surprise very few people who are out there — there is no new episode coming your way next week. It’s Christmas Eve and even though Showtime isn’t dependent on live viewers, they do still want attention given to their episodes. That’s hard to do that when many prospective viewers are either celebrating the holiday with their friends and family, drunk on eggnog, or both. The Gallagher way, clearly, is to get a little too crazy on December 24 and black out until about halfway into Christmas Day itself.
Shameless season 8 episode 8 will return on Showtime come December 31, and that is somewhat surprising in its own right. Why would the network opt to air a new episode against New Year’s Eve specials? Substitute eggnog for champagne and party hats and you can repeat everything that we said in the earlier paragraph. This is obviously a DVR play and evidence that Showtime doesn’t want Shameless off the air all that long. The network already gave Emmy Rossum and company a ninth season so there’s not any real urgency to deliver big numbers. If the ratings go down on December 31 they’ll more than likely go back up on January.

Frank starts a booming import-export business. Fiona considers moving into her own place after Ford shows her a side of Chicago she’s never seen. Meanwhile, Lip interviews new sponsors, Ian confronts a pastor trying to “pray the gay away” and Debbie deals with being unemployed while looking for a way to afford school and raise Franny.
We like to think that there is enough interesting content in there to compensate for the hiatus — this should be a badass Ian storyline and for Frank, it seems like he’s oddly qualified for an import-export business given that he seems like the sort of guy who’s taken some questionable stuff across borders in the past. Maybe this will blow up in his face in the most ridiculous fashion possible but it’ll probably be entertaining every step of the way until that point.
