Agents of SHIELD season 5 episode 5 preview: Fitz, Lance Hunter return

After many weeks of waiting, it appears as though Agents of SHIELD season 5 episode 5 is finally going to give you a Fitz story. The character has been severed from the rest of the team for the first handful of episodes in an interesting story move. From one vantage point, it makes sense to raise the stakes for this character and to give SHIELD a connection to their old reality. (Remember, most of these characters were transported far into the future at the start of the season.) The part of the twist that we don’t love is just that the FitzSimmons ‘ship keeps getting put through hell in a billion different ways. Are these two ever going to have a chance to be happy?

Agents of SHIELD season 5 episode 5 (entitled “Rewind”) will be a chance to spend some time with this character. Beyond that, this is also a chance to see Nick Blood back on the show with Lance Hunter. It would’ve been great to also get Adrianne Palicki on here given the Hunter – Bobbi Morse story from a couple seasons back, but with The Orville we know she’s rather busy these days. We do know that she’s open to returning; for now, let’s just hope that Blood’s character offers up some sort of update as to what is going on with her.

With the surprising help of Lance Hunter, nothing will stop Fitz from finding the lost team as his incredible journey is revealed.

It’s hard to judge a 42 minute episode based on just a synopsis, but signs point towards this being one of those Agents of SHIELD episodes where you see a small handful of characters and the emphasis is put almost entirely on them. Think in terms of like when Jemma was on Maveth. This is a great opportunity to see a memorable Iain De Caestecker performance and that’s definitely not something we’ll shy away from. In general, the Agents of SHIELD cast never gets enough credit for their acting ability.
