Will Bjorn kill Lagertha on Vikings season 5?
CarterMatt has long thought that Bjorn would be the one to kill her and after this past episode we are more convinced of this then ever before that our theory is right. Lagertha spoke to the Seer once again (on this past episode) asking if she would ever see Bjorn again. He told her that she will, but it will not be joyous. It seems that their reunion will be disastrous pouring more fuel into our theory. While she tried to push for more information, the Seer refused to reveal anything further. It’s possible that this unhappy reunion may just be foreshadowing Bjorn’s death since there have been rumors that he’s not going to survive his adventures in the Mediterranean (and Alexander Ludwig is on a new show called Swerve), but that doesn’t mean that he won’t be responsible for Lagertha’s death as well. If you know the history that’s out there about the real Bjorn Ironside, then you know that in real life he did not die on this journey to the Mediterranean and ended up living as a very rich man for many years in Scandinavia. The History channel likes to try to keep in step with the actual history of the real life stories as much as they can, so we feel like this disastrous meeting between Bjorn and Lagertha won’t be about him dying.
We’ve never thought that Bjorn is going to kill her in some fit of rage, but that it might be by accident or under the heavy influence of someone that has his trust. The Seer has never said that she was going to die because of some sort of vengeance, just that one of Ragnar’s sons would be her undoing. Right now the son that has the greatest chance of killing her is Ubbe, who has learned that there is unrest in Lagertha’s camp and that some of her most trusted allies are starting to shift away from her after how badly she handled the King Harald situation, but he’s also a bit of a lost soul right now and it’s hard to know which way he’s going to fall. He’s been team Ragnar, Team brothers and now Team Lagertha – he really has no loyalty to anyone. If Ubbe kills her, that will definitely be anticlimactic for us as a viewer.
There is another theory that’s been floating around about Bjorn for a while now and that’s the idea that Bjorn is not even Ragnar’s son. Recently Katheryn Winnick was asked on Twitter about the rumor that Bjorn is Rollo’s son to which she responded with: “All I can say is that Lagertha and Rollo have a complicated history”. We know that Rollo has always been in love with her and would’ve betrayed Ragnar in a second to be with her (to be fair Rollo will betray anyone for just about anything), but at that period of time Lagertha was dedicated to Ragnar. We have a hard time believing that Lagertha was fooling around with Rollo at that time, since she had a very strong reaction to Ragnar fooling around with Aslaug – in fact it ended in divorce once Aslaug turned up pregnant. If Bjorn is Rollo’s son it would be a shock to us, but it would also take him out of the running as her killer since he would not be Ragnar’s son – we just don’t buy into that theory.
Ivar is the most obvious candidate to kill Lagertha since he loves killing people in general and she killed his mother, but it’s a little too obvious. Hvitserk is an interesting choice as well since he feels like his siblings just treat him as their lap dog to do their bidding for them. He may want to make a name for himself as the person that took down Lagertha.
Our money is on Bjorn being Lagertha’s undoing – as much as it pains us to say.
