Is Grey’s Anatomy season 14 dropping future Meredith love interest?

Is a new Meredith love interest on Grey’s Anatomy season 14 being pushed back for a little bit further down the road? The latest report is making all of us here at CarterMatt wonder if this is the case.

According to a new report that is coming in via TVLine, the series is changing one of the characters that was set to come in. Originally, the show was looking to cast a male actor to play a forty-something foreign doctor. The gender has now flipped on this character, and the show is now looking for a woman to play the part.

What does this mean? It could be a number of different things. For one, it’s possible that producers decided that doing another Meredith love interest so soon after Riggs is not something that they necessarily needed to do. We suppose it’s possible in theory that Meredith could be interested in a female character, but there hasn’t been any inkling on the show at all that she is bisexual. Therefore, we’re thinking that the writers are just going in a different direction with her story. As time goes along there will always be time for romance and some other matters to take center stage.

For the time being, it does appear on the surface that one of the main storylines that will be pushed hard as we get deeper into Grey’s Anatomy season 14 is the one revolving around Jo and Alex. These characters do care about each other, but have repeatedly found themselves in a position where they are tested. That is going to happen yet again with the arrival of Dr. Paul Stadler. Meredith’s immediate future is a little more enigmatic, given that you are talking about a woman who already has much of what she needs in life, including a Harper Avery and a great family. She doesn’t need to find love and the show is probably going to be a reflection of that.

Grey’s Anatomy returns from its winter hiatus with new episodes starting up in January.
