Is Taye Diggs leaving Empire as Angelo after season 4 fall finale?
The series certainly wants you to spend the better part of the hiatus thinking hardcore about the future of this character, once a staple and a significant Cookie Lyon love interest. After a bit of a scrum in the fall finale involving Jamal, we heard a gunshot and we saw Angelo fall to the ground. While there was no clear signal that he was dying/dead, the show definitely wants us thinking about this going into the holiday hiatus.
Here’s the thing with Angelo moving forward — given the arrest of his mother, you can absolutely argue that there are some great reasons to keep him around story-wise moving into the future. Don’t you think that he is going to have a reaction to what happened to Diana long-term? It could create some great drama, especially since he’s going to have to adjust to his entire family’s reputation being destroyed. This is a very different world than the one he’s grown accustomed to, given that he now has to understand that being a Dubois doesn’t carry the same weight to it.
Yet, you can also imagine that killing off Angelo could have an interesting impact on Diana. Don’t you think this would motivate her even more? Even if Diana is behind bars, you still have to think that she holds a certain degree of power. She may not be what she was, but a desperate woman will still find the means to make some pretty shocking things happen. Diana is a great character and with that, we’re of course hoping that she is sticking around on the show — even if you hate her, she is absolutely compelling and it’s pretty hard to deny that.
For now, we should point out that Diggs has not confirmed or even addressed an Empire exit. With that, stay tuned until the show returns!
