Where are the 2018 People’s Choice Awards nominations?

People's Choice Awards

What’s going on with the 2018 People’s Choice Awards — and is anything going on at all?

The awards show, which honors some of the best across all entertainment as voted upon by the fans, has been oddly dark for most of the fall following the news earlier this spring that the show would be moving to E! after spending years airing over on CBS. The last posts on both its Facebook and Twitter account were on October 20 — a good month and a half ago. The official site is still posting content, but they have said nary a word about when the 2018 ceremony will take place or when voting will be eligible.

What we’re seeing here from the PCAs could be E! opting to move the show to a different time of the year — when they acquired the rights to broadcast the show in 2018 they declined to say when it would actually air, and it’s more than possibly they want to move it out of awards season. Think about it in this way — over the month of January we’ve got the Golden Globes and the Grammys (earlier a little earlier than usual). Then, in February there is the Super Bowl, the Oscars, and the Winter Olympics. That is a lot of event programming within the first couple of months of 2018!

For now, there are no announced plans to scrap the awards — signs point to it still happening, but the question we wonder is why the PCAs have not made more of an effort to declare their future plans. We’ve been asked a number of questions personally about the future of the show, so we cannot imagine all of the various questions that they’ve been bombarded with about it. You want to give voters something to be excited about … so why not give them this?

One thing we do hope

The People’s Choice Awards have learned from some of their lessons in the past, including to feature more of the big winners in some capacity on the stage. We’re still not over Outlander winning some of the night’s biggest honors earlier this year and them failing to receive even the smallest of mentions. Would it have really hurt them to air a pre-recorded video message at the very least? Hopefully with the move come changes.
