Should Supergirl season 3 introduce Cosmic Boy, Lightning Lad?
Before we start going down a rabbit hole without proper context, here you go. Cosmic Boy and Lightning Lad are both founding members of the Legion in the comics. They’re a powerful group of crime-fighters who teamed up in the early going with Saturn Girl … otherwise known as Imra Ardeen. We already have this character on Supergirl in the form of Mon-El’s new wife. Mon-El, for the record, is also a member of the Legion both in the comics (he wasn’t among the first iteration there) and the CW show itself.
Finding ways to integrate both Cosmic Boy and Lightning Lad into Supergirl could prove challenging, mostly because there are so many other characters already. Nonetheless, there could be some merit in finding a way to make it happen. For starters, it’s pretty clear that Supergirl needs a lifeline in her battle against Reign. To date she’s shown herself to be near-unstoppable; she’s bested Kara once, and without some sort of new angle she could easily best Kara again. Lightning Lad and Cosmic Boy could help. In the case of the latter, Cosmic Boy has an ability of super-magnetism that would be very useful in ensuring that he is constantly in control of any battle. Meanwhile, Lightning Lad is basically the good version of Livewire — as a matter of fact, Live Wire is a name he’s been referred to as in the DC Comics before.
There are many other people within later editions of the Legion of Super-Heroes that Supergirl season 3 could choose from, but these two are the ones we consider both the most notable and the most interesting since they were there with Saturn Girl at the beginning. It also wouldn’t be all that hard to see them written into the show.
One of the biggest issues with it is simply this: The name Lightning Lad has to be one of the most ridiculous superhero names ever. We got used to seeing people called “Captain Cold” and “Weather Wizard” over on The Flash, so we presume that in time, we could also get used to this.
