Shameless season 8 episode 7 preview: Ian pushes Fiona to the limit

Shameless season 8 episode 7 is coming onto Showtime in just seven days, and based on what we’re seeing, Fiona’s got a mess on her hands.

The title for this episode is “Occupy Fiona,” and if that didn’t spell to you trouble, what would? She’s going to have to deal with Ian, while Lip is going to have to deal with getting Professor Youens to court. Finally, Frank Gallagher is going to have to deal with finding another job — mostly because it was clear from the moment that he got the old job that it wasn’t going to last. Stability is not Frank’s forte.

Ian tests Fiona’s patience and resolve by bringing a messy “Occupy Fiona” movement right to her front door. Lip struggles to get Professor Youens to court for his DUI trial. Meanwhile, a now unemployed Frank goes on a job hunt and Carl gets a feisty new rehab client with a plan to help him get the rest of his tuition.

This episode should be a fun one, but there’s no doubt in our mind at the moment that we’re most worried about Carl. He’s the character who seems to be sliding the most at the moment, and anytime you start getting into the head-space where you start trying to execute crazy schemes like the one he’s got going on, you know that there is going to be trouble. (How many Shameless schemes ever really work out? The best thing you can hope for is temporary gains.)

Before we conclude this article, we should give you a brief scheduling update: There is no Shameless episode on Christmas Eve so after the conclusion of “Occupy Fiona” you’ll be waiting until December 31 to see what happens next. We’re as surprised as anyone to see that Showtime wants to air an episode on New Year’s Eve, but obviously they don’t want anyone to be removed from Shameless for too long that the season starts to lose some of its momentum.
