The Orville season 2 premiere date hopes for Seth MacFarlane, cast
Let’s start this piece out by addressing the show’s renewal status, in the event that you did not know already — you are going to be seeing more of The Orville in the new year! Following a hot start and some strong DVR ratings, the science fiction series from Seth MacFarlane is returning. It’s been one of the more intriguing shows of the year, a fan favorite that has withstood a thrashing by many critics and has since become somewhat of a fan favorite. It’s funny at times but heartfelt and sweet at others. We feel like the expectation going in was for this to be some sort of Star Trek parody but the reality is a little bit different — the show is actually more of an homage than anything else, and a product trying to capture the imagination of the original show.
The debate in regards to The Orville season 2 premiere date revolves simply around how Fox is going to schedule it. Will they start the second season off after NFL football again, and how many episodes is it going to be for? Given the show’s elaborate post-production it’s a little too challenging to do the standard 22-episode season, and one of the benefits of the post-NFL airings in the early going here is that it gave The Orville an opportunity to actually air the entirety of the first season before the holiday break. That’s not bad given that it took a little time off for Thanksgiving.
While waiting for the second season to come on the air one of the best things that any fan of the show can hope for is that more viewers discover the series and give it a chance. It has the potential to grow rather exponentially via DVR and streaming, especially given the assumption some may make based on either the name or the presence of MacFarlane — there may be a sentiment that this is just a Family Guy retread in outer space when that couldn’t be further from the truth.
Fox will likely make a firm decision regarding the scheduling for The Orville season 2 at the upfront presentation this spring — a premiere date, provided it returns in fall 2018, should be announced over the summer.
