SWAT season 1 production halted due to California wildfires

SWAT episode 1 production

SWAT season 1 may have recently been granted a full-season order over at CBS, but the show is now forced into an unexpected break.

Due to a sudden spread of dangerous wildfires overnight — something brought about by a combination of dry terrain and high winds — filming for the time being has been shut down. The official SWAT writers room confirmed this in a statement on Twitter. Hopefully, the fires can be contained and filming will be able to resume in the near future. Filming for the show takes place in and around the Santa Clarita area, a location that is also used for a number of other CBS shows. (If there are updates regarding some of those other programs, we will add them to this article down the road.)

2017 in general has been a dangerous one for California wildfires — a large canyon fire in the Anaheim area caused many to evacuate earlier this fall and another one devastated California wine country and towns around the Bay Area region.

SWAT is a remake of the classic series (later turned into a movie), and this series stars Criminal Minds alum Shemar Moore as the leader of an elite squad in the city of Los Angeles. The series has been a stable ratings performer for CBS since its premiere, which prompted a full-season order and then an episode extension after the fact. Luckily, with the way in which CBS series tend to operate like a well-oiled machine there should be a chance for SWAT to be able to make up for some lost time.

As the writers room notes, we are also sending some of our own thoughts to those who are having to make some very difficult decisions today as a result of these fires. There are no plans at present for this to impact SWAT’s airing schedule; an installment is set to come on CBS this Thursday, and a preview for it can be viewed by heading over to the link here.
