Could SNL star, Match Game host Alec Baldwin get an ABC talk show?

Jetsons

Is an Alec Baldwin talk show something that come could to fruition at ABC? Signs point to it being possible.

According to a new report coming in right now via Deadline, the Emmy-winning Saturday Night Live star and Match Game host could end up doing a talk show based in part on his popular podcast / radio show Here’s the Thing with Alec Baldwin. The show features Baldwin interviewing a number of popular celebrities from a number of different spaces in a relaxed setting. It’s a rather-pleasant listen, and very different from much of what you would expect from Baldwin given his career as a performer and also some of his very political commentary on social media.

As for whether or not it would work as a talk show, much of that likely depends on the venue. We actually think that it would work well as a follow-up to Jimmy Kimmel Live! and/or Nightline as a relaxed interview show that people could download the next day as a podcast. It could be funny at times and informative at others.

However, we have a rather-difficult time seeing this be something that works as a daytime talk show just because these tend to be a little more high-energy. We don’t want to see Baldwin becoming something that he’s not or interviewing guests who are outside of his space.

Would this mean the end of his time on SNL if it happens?

Not necessarily. Baldwin would probably do the show out of his home base in New York and could easily still appear on the weekends if he wants to. He’s shown no interest as of late in walking away from the Donald Trump impression, which mostly makes sense given that it has brought him substantially more fame than he has had since his days on 30 Rock. It’s also enabled him to have a wide array of other opportunities, including working on his own book as the Trump character. This really is the gift that keeps on giving.
