Absentia Canadian premiere date coming this winter, per Showcase teaser
CarterMatt has been asked a number of times over the past couple of months about the Absentia Canadian premiere date — now, we can at least say it’s coming soon.
During tonight’s new episode of Supergirl airing on Showcase (which will be the Canadian home for the Stana Katic series), we saw a teaser that confirmed that the series will be premiering this winter. While it’s likely not coming until 2018, this does at least confirm that you won’t be waiting too much longer to see Absentia here in North America. January or February seems ideal for the show — temperatures are pretty cold across Canada, so why not snuggle up and watch a great series over going out into the snow?
Showcase was first announced as the Canadian broadcaster for Absentia many months ago, long before Amazon was confirmed as the US home for the show. The news immediately excited us, largely because we’ve seen them be supportive of a number of fantastic programs over the years. We’ve mentioned Supergirl, and they previously were the Canadian home for Outlander before that show moved over to W Network. They’ll do a great job promoting Absentia and getting it a good Canadian audience; we already know that it has a season 2 underway so hopefully they’ll continue to broadcast it well into the future.
Viewers on Showcase are going to be in for a treat, given the fact that Absentia has already completed its run in some other countries. One of the good things about the show airing on a traditional network in Canada is that you’ll get a chance to watch an episode every week and digest it before moving onto the next one. While we do love the binge-watching viewing method that is common with Amazon and Netflix, we’ll admit that our favorite method of viewing is still to watch episodes at a little bit of a slower pace. It helps build up excitement and generate conversations in between airings and that’s a great way to get some more buzz going about the show.
