Victoria Christmas Special teaser: Romance, drama, and a winter wonderland

Victoria season 2 episode 3The Victoria Christmas Special is almost here on ITV — who is ready to start getting into the festive spirit? In just a matter of a few short weeks we’ll have a prime opportunity to ring in the holidays with Jenna Coleman and the rest of the cast; what that effectively means is that there will be opportunities to see both some serious drama and a reminder of what Christmas once was.

One of the things that we often do as people who love all things Christmas is just assume that it has always been the same as what it is now, even if that isn’t quite the case. There are traditions that are reasonably familiar that have been around for centuries, but there have also been some that have evolved and morphed over time. What is popular now is not always what was popular way back when.

What we can say — and what has been very well-documented in history — is that Albert was very much a fan of Christmas. He may be the one fighting more than anyone else to keep the spirit of the day alive.

Beyond just the holiday, we imagine that one of the larger themes of the Christmas Special is going to be seeing Victoria do everything in her power to adjust to the ever-changing circumstances around her. It’s been difficult trying to balance out the roles of mother, wife, and Queen, especially when there are Prime Ministers and advisers who all want her to do different things. She has had to work really hard in order to earn the favor of everyone who was close to her.

When will the Victoria Christmas special air on PBS?

This is the bad news for American viewers. Because of the second season not premiering until the new year, you are unfortunately going to be stuck waiting until more than likely March or April to see the Christmas Special. Hopefully you are still in some sort of festive spirit around then…
