Outlander season 3: Fergus and Marsali, present and future

Outlander season 3 is getting close to the end of the road, but there are still many interesting scenes to come for a number of characters! That could include our resident newlyweds in Marsali and Fergus Fraser, who have the challenge of finding a way to make their new lives work for each other in a new place. They’ve also been in a position where they’ve needed to earn the approval of Jamie — and Marsali probably still has a ways to go when it comes to her relationship with Claire.

Maybe the two characters will have some moments within the next couple of episodes, but beyond that, these characters do have a rather long journey ahead. They’re not disappearing from the Diana Gabaldon books at any point in the near future, and you’re going to get a chance to see a lot of the two of them moving forward on the show.

There’s another reason to like these two characters beyond just their spontaneity and reckless nature — Cesar Domboy and Lauren Lyle. The two actors are fantastic in their roles, and beyond that they seem to have a lot of fun together working on the show. You get some more proof of that in a Q&A session that they recently had with fans all over the world. They talked about a number of different subjects, but the part of this we found the most endearing was the part in which they joked around with each other.

As for exhibit B, this response from Lauren is perfect. She was asked as to how she and Domboy prepared for the big wedding scene on this past episode.

Having this sort of fun relationship with fans is pretty essential if you’re going to be an Outlander cast member. We’ve certainly seen many fun barbs traded back and forth between Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe, and Richard Rankin / Sophie Skelton have acted fairly similar online. Often the entire pulse of the show stems from the actors, and in this case Balfe and Heughan have set a great standard for everyone else to follow. They’ve created a fun energy that makes everyone else feel comfortable.
