Outlander season 3: Sam Heughan’s Golden Globe campaign — where it stands
In a new post on Twitter (see below), you can see star Sam Heughan doing his part to keep the campaign going for his show. He obviously wants to do what he can to get the show some nominations and based on where we are at present, we do think that it’s got a rather-good shot in multiple categories.
Beyond the fact that Outlander is a great show deserving of all of the love in the world, there’s also one other thing that it does have going for it right now: Timing. Typically the Golden Globes do tend to favor shows that premiere later on in the year, and given that Outlander received love from the Globes the past two years despite airing earlier in the spring, it should have an even better chance of getting some love now. This is the heart of campaign season and Outlander is delivering some fantastic episodes, ones that put both Heughan and his co-star Caitriona Balfe in the spotlight more than ever.
Are there are some other major competitors out there? Sure. The Crown has a strategic advantage, as well, and you cannot forget about The Handmaid’s Tale from earlier this year. This Is Us is as consistent a crowd-pleaser as they come, and Game of Thrones could provide an added challenge to both Heughan and Balfe now that it’s been revealed that both Kit Harington and Emilia Clarke are both submitting as leads for the first time after submitting as supporting for the better part of the past six years.
In the end the Globes are hard to predict just because their voters are often mysterious — nonetheless, Heughan has his best chance at a nomination to date. We’d love to see that, and we’d also love to see someone within the show get a win this year. The more exposure the show gets on a grand stage, the better off it is for the long-term future. That’s why awards shows are always two-fold. Sure, it’s great to see a series you love get some recognition and acclaim, but beyond that you want new viewers to discover it. This is why it was so disappointing that the People’s Choice Awards completely ignored Outlander after it won so many of their awards earlier this year — especially when they could have just shown a pre-recorded message featuring some of the cast in Scotland. (They were filming season 3 at the time of the ceremony.)

Really hoping Sam gets recognized this year. He really deserves it.
Any idea what went on with the People’s Choice Awards? I personally put in a lot of man hours to not even get mentioned. Outlander won all of it’s categories including the biggest award of the night! I know CBS closed the show with the Big Bang cast (self promotion), but not even a mention?

OMG ?
I just checked People’s Choice Awards winners 2017 and Outlander won in all the nominated categories! I am shocked!
We were going against such global phenomenons as Game of Thrones, Stranger Things and we WON!
It is only possible because of such dedicated fans like yourself mila! Thank you so much !
In my opinion Outlander is one of the most underrated series on TV and still so many people unaware of it. Winning the awards is helping massively to broaden awareness and also it strengthen the case for renewal!
Thank you again to you and all the fans who voted!

Good luck to the talented cast! I think Sam would be happy with a nom, he’s had a strong season but the writers don’t write the true Jamie of the books. If he had stronger material he would be a shoe-in.
