Suits: Departing star Meghan Markle engaged (officially) to Prince Harry
On Monday morning, the news was made official via a statement from Clarence House in London — Prince Henry of Wales (better known as Prince Harry) is now engaged to the Suits star and the wedding is being planned in the spring. The engagement between the two apparently took place earlier this month, and the two will stay at Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace for the time being.
This engagement is one that has been many months in the making and speculated long before that for a wide array of reasons, most notably Markle’s departure from Suits at the end of the season. She fulfilled her contractual duties to film through until the end of the season, and after it wrapped earlier this month she immediately traveled overseas to London. Presumably, this is where she plans to stay for the foreseeable future. Markle’s marriage will create a more American presence within the British Royal Family, as well as help develop a greater degree of inclusiveness into what was at one point a very limited club.
As for if this means anything more from Suits, we do wonder if the engagement will lead to more attention for the show in the final episodes of season 7 (premiering in the new year). While that was not necessarily the case during the first half of the season, USA could now choose to promote the show with Markle front and center over the next few months — it’s not often that you have a future Royal as a part of your cast! We do, of course, think that Markle’s publicity appearances for the new season will probably be a little more limited, largely due to how careful the Royal Family is.
In the end, many congratulations are in store for Markle! Her love story with the Prince is somehow even more of a whirlwind and a crazy journey than that of her character Rachel Zane and Mike Ross. For the record, Markle’s co-star Patrick J. Adams, who plays her onscreen love interest, shared his thoughts hilariously in a post on Twitter which you can check out below.
Excited for Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding, and do you think that this move has any impact on the show? Be sure to share in the comments.
