Is Patrick J. Adams leaving Suits alongside Meghan Markle?

Patrick J. Adams leaving

Is Patrick J. Adams leaving Suits at the end of this season? We expected this to be the case for Meghan Markle, but for him this is a surprise.

According to a report from Deadline, this departure may nonetheless be happening. A source tells the site that Adams, (who plays Mike Ross on the long-running USA drama) may be looking to start a new chapter in his career after fulfilling his seven-year contract on the show. His life has changed dramatically since first appearing on the show, and we wouldn’t blame him for wanting a change. We also have to think that his personal life is a factor — he recently married Pretty Little Liars alum Troian Bellisario and the two parties have spent a great deal of time away from each other due to productions in separate cities.

As shocked as we would be to lose both Adams and Markle (who has had rumors of her exit out there for some time — for very Royal reasons), it actually makes more sense for the two of them to depart together than for one to leave on their own. Just remember that Mike and Rachel may finally be getting married before the end of season 7, and it’s possible that the two opt to start a new chapter of their lives somewhere that is not New York City and at the firm currently called Pearson Specter Litt.

Now when it comes to the future for Suits without these two, that remains a very interesting subject of discussion. The aforementioned report notes that a season 8 renewal is likely, but the challenge here is that most of the show was set up around Mike Ross, this bike messenger-turned attorney who lied about his credentials for years. His friendship with Harvey is one of the only reasons why he managed to keep that secret under wraps for so long, and without the back-and-forth between these two is this even the same show? You could easily craft a new narrative around Harvey and Donna running the firm (and their possible romantic future), but it would feel like a very different show. If Gabriel Macht, Sarah Rafferty, and Rick Hoffman (Louis Litt) opt to return, they would be the only original cast members staying put.

There are options for promotions for people who are already recurring players on the show. Look, for example, at Dule Hill (Alex Williams) or Amanda Schull (Katrina Bennett). We’ll see what happens, given that Suits will have some time in order to figure this out if the show does end up getting renewed for more episodes. Filming for an eighth season wouldn’t start until around the spring of next year.
