The Agents of SHIELD 100th episode is going to be pretty huge

The Agents of SHIELD 100th episode is one of many things to be excited about when it comes to the upcoming season. Every season of the show is its own animal with its own themes, and you’ll get a chance to experience some of that when the two-hour premiere airs in one week’s time! Coulson and company are going to be out in space when the story picks back up, and they’re not going to have all that much of an indication as to why they’ve been transported out there. Will there be answers? Probably, but there’s no guarantee that they’ll come right away.

Speaking to ComicBook.com, Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb had the following to say in terms of what you can expect to see from the 100th episode — and how it could be tied to the agents-in-space storyline in one form or another:

“Look, this is not going to come as a surprise to anyone that’s ever seen a 100th episode, that there will be a significant event. That’s all I can tell you. They gotta get home from space!”

Given that the Agents of SHIELD 100th episode should air at some point around the middle of season 5, that means that there would be a good chunk of the story where the agents are back home … but there will probably be some other problem for them because that’s what tends to happen with them. We definitely do think that telling this story in arcs is some of what made season 4 work as well as it did — they didn’t have to stretch any one story too long, and they connected all of them through Aida, the story of creation, and what eventually became the Framework and the crazy aftermath of that. It was one of the most complete seasons that we’ve seen of Agents of SHIELD and also one of the best.
