Trumpeter Freddie Jones performs National Anthem at Cowboys – Chargers Thanksgiving game
There is something to be said about tradition, and that is something that the Cowboys are all about. Even in this divisive time with so much controversy revolving around anthem performances, there’s a good chance that the Cowboys could’ve found a big name to come in and do “The Star Spangled-Banner” for them. Yet, they’ve stuck with Jones yet again for this performance.
How was Jones in this performance? As outstanding as always. We will say that it’s somewhat interesting that neither of the first two NFL games today had a vocalist perform the anthem, but that probably just comes down to who the home teams want to book — like we said, the Cowboys have a fondness for Freddie Jones.
In the end, the main thing that will receive attention today should be the game, but of course the anthem is generating more attention than usual these days due to some of the protests. Based on what we witnessed during the CBS broadcast, every player seemed to be standing. We should point out that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones did have some rather-surprising things to say recently, specifically about Donald Trump’s anthem-protest comments in a new interview with CNN:
“Donald Trump is a longtime fan of sport and longtime fan of football and has been involved as (an) owner in professional football, so he has some knowledge … I certainly think that the thing he is addressing is certainly a part of how we want to make our game better.”
Unfortunately, this is the sort of thing that you should be very aware of at this point if you are a Cowboys fan — Jones loves media attention and will seek it out at any cost.
The strangest thing about this game to us? The fact that both the Cowboys and the Chargers both seemed to be wearing blue jerseys — when does that happen, and won’t that be confusing? If we were playing it certainly would be!
