Designated Survivor season 2 episode 9: Is Alex Kirkman leaving?
While ABC has yet to confirmed the precise exit date for McElhone, the recently-released Designated Survivor season 2 episode 9 synopsis that CarterMatt has for you below (this episode airs on ABC on Wednesday, December 6) hints in part that the end for Alex could be coming:
“After sorting through thousands of letters all requesting something of president, the White House staff are assigned three, with Emily, Seth, Aaron, Llyor and Kendra joining forces to get answers and possibly save a life. Meanwhile, Hannah and Damian continue to chase down leads to exonerate the first lady, but in the end, Hannah learns the truth may be closer than she thinks.”
However Alex Kirkman departs this series, it’s going to be interesting given that the First Lady is not someone you really get rid of willy-nilly. She’s one of the most important people in the country, and we’re intrigued to see if there is any way that the writers can phase out this character without just killing her off. This appears to be the most likely way that they will go about this just because it’s so hard to justify anything else. We just want the show to be brave and bold with whatever they decide while honoring this character in the process. Don’t just focus on crazy for crazy’s sake. This show does that too much as it is.
The one thing we feel confident about? That ABC is probably bummed that the news about McElhone’s exit was so publicized. That leaves most diehard fans now in a position where they know the move is going to happen and are now just waiting to see how it all unfolds. This could’ve been one of those amazing shocking moments.
