This Is Us season 2 fall finale spoilers: What makes ‘Number Three’ captivating
Chrissy Metz gave a heart-wrenching and powerful performance on this past episode as Kate, and now, she’s as excited as anyone to see what Sterling K. Brown shows off to America. In hyping up the episode more in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly Metz had the following to say:
“It’s really special. Sterling is just captivating. It’s Randall in a way that we haven’t been able to see him, trying to find his identity and footing in an all-white family. And he’s preparing to go off to school. And then, of course, we find out some more backstory of relationships and how our parents impact us, biological or adoptive.”
Personally, what we’re the most excited to see on This Is Us season 2 is exploring some of Randall’s college years and seeing more of what it’s like for him stepping out on his own, making his own friends and being a little bit more independent of the life that he had with his siblings. His entire life has been with the Pearsons and he hasn’t had that chance to forge more of his own identity. That’s what made some of the story with William so interesting and this would be an opportunity to dive in and explore even more of that.
After “Number Three,” what’s also interesting is that the trilogy of episodes centering around the Big Three is done. Where do we go from there? More than likely the gears shift back to This Is Us being more about an ensemble, but it would be interesting to get more stories told from the perspective of some of the supporting characters. This may be the story of the Pearson family but you can’t ignore that there are some other people who are an important part of it (like Miguel!).
