Breckin Meyer joining Designated Survivor season 2 as Kirkman’s brother

Designated Survivor season 2, we’re going to have a chance for the first time to see Kirkman’s brother. To go along with that, we’re going to see a rather familiar face in the role.

Per a new report coming in right now via Deadline, Breckin Meyer of Franklin & Bash fame is going to come on board as Trey Kirkman, the younger brother of Kiefer Sutherland’s Tom a.k.a. the President of the country. While Tom is worthy of ruling America (even if it didn’t seem that way at first), we’ve got a feeling that Trey is not the sort of guy you want really ruling anything. While he is successful within the finance sector, he is also fiercely independent and a little bit of a free spirit. He’s intelligent and okay in social situations, but he may be a little unpredictable.

The relationship between Tom and Trey is not exactly great, which does help to inform us a little bit more as a viewer as to why we haven’t met the character before now. We don’t exactly think that Tom would have a lot of time to bro down even if they were close, but they most clearly aren’t. There are some other issues that the two are going to have to deal with coming up on the show, and that includes Kirkman having some major troubles overseas in Afghanistan. Something serious is coming on the show — it’s not entirely clear as of yet what that something is, but as we start to get nearer to the end of the first half of the season there are going to be some big reveals. That’s just the way that this show works and there are definitely some characters to be worried about. (Given one notable cast departure, Alex Kirkman is high on our list.)

Based on the timing of this casting news, we anticipate that we’re going to have a chance to see Meyer turn up on Supergirl season 2 at some point in 2017.
