Quick Hits: Seth Meyers hosting Golden Globes; Harley Quinn animated series; The Magicians season 3 trailer
We begin today’s edition of TV Quick Hits with some breaking news coming in from the awards-show community: Seth Meyers is hosting the Golden Globes!
According to a report from Variety, Late Night host Seth Meyers, who did an incredible job hosting the Emmys back when it was on NBC, is close to a deal to host the awards show this year. Meyers will be following such past hosts as Tina Fey / Amy Poehler, Ricky Gervais, and Jimmy Fallon — there are a lot of SNL connections here save for Gervais, but that shouldn’t be much of a shock given the NBC connection here.
Meyers is a great choice, but may we suggest next year getting Cecily Strong or Kate McKinnon for the role? It’d be a great way for them to start to segue to some other avenues — hopefully they’ll be on SNL for a little while still, but they are at their point on the show now where they have to start thinking a little bit more about their future.
As for some other news from the day…
Harley Quinn animated series on the way – Given that the Harley Quinn character first originated on Batman: The Animated Series, it only makes sense that she return to the medium. According to Deadline, DC’s upcoming streaming service has ordered 26 episodes of a solo Harley-centric series, and has asked Margot Robbie, who plays the character on the big screen, if she would like to voice her on the show. (Tara Strong is probably the most famous Harley Quinn voice actor out there at the moment.)
Now, the question we’re left to wonder is what interpretation of this character we’re getting — is this the old-school Harley from the animated series or more of the New 52 comic book Harley, where she lives on Coney Island and keeps a wide array of crazy animals?
The Magicians season 3 premiere date -If you’ve been wondering when the series will return to Syfy, here is your response — Wednesday, January 10.
