Chicago PD season 5 episode 9 spoilers: Will Voight learn about the mole?

At the center of Chicago PD season 5 episode 9, (an episode fittingly entitled “Monster”) are some monstrous reveals. One of the big ones could be the battle between Voight and Ruzek that has been many weeks in the making.

Before getting into some analysis, let’s go ahead and share the synopsis below:

12/06/2017 (10:00PM – 11:00PM) (Wednesday) : INTELLIGENCE WORKS TO TAKE DOWN AN OPIOID RING AFTER THE DAUGHTER OF A PROMINENT JUDGE DIES OF AN OVERDOSE. The death of Judge Tommy Wells’ (guest star John Pankow) daughter puts Intelligence on the track of a pill mill spreading into the suburbs of Chicago and the doctor enabling it. Meanwhile, Voight (Jason Beghe) discovers who’s been leaking information from the 21st. Also starring Jon Seda, Jesse Lee Soffer, Patrick John Flueger, Elias Koteas, Marina Squerciati, LaRoyce Hawkins, Amy Morton and Tracy Spiridakos. Guest starring Monica Barbaro, Anabelle Acosta and Mykelti Williamson.

What we wonder is this: If Voight learns that Ruzek is the leak and Denny Woods put him up to it, what happens then? It’s a huge betrayal for Adam to be doing this, but don’t you sympathize with the reasoning? His future and his family’s future is at stake! Adam clearly doesn’t like the idea of doing this, but may not feel as though he has a choice. This is a morally complex situation, which is in part what makes it so interesting and compelling in the first place. The best Chicago PD stories are the ones that do inject a great deal of moral ambiguity. It’s easy to put yourself into Ruzek’s shoes and imagine that you would do the same thing if it would help your family.

Unfortunately on the other side of this there are consequences … and we’re pretty darn sure that Voight is the last person you want to anger.

Beyond everything else in the story, it is worth noting that this is the second appearance of Barbaro as Anna Valdez this season after her run on Chicago Justice. Given that she has a role coming up on the upcoming Netflix series The Good Cop, we’re not sure how much you willsee her after this.
